Park County Public Works Delivers Comprehensive Mid-August Road Project Update

Park County Public Works has provided a detailed progress report on its ongoing road maintenance and special projects for the week of August 15, 2024.

11-Mile Road Reclamation Project

The 11-Mile Road Reclamation, which started in May 2024, focuses on improving CR59, CR92, and CR90. Crews have already completed 12 miles of CR92 and are currently regrading CR59 for proper crown and drainage. The process involves milling in two inches of new road base with the existing chip seal and base layers. Magnesium chloride is also being mixed into the road material to create a more solid and durable road surface. The contractor is progressing at approximately one mile per day and is preparing to haul in new Class 5 road base material for the next phase of the project. Final grading on CR59 and CR92 is expected to begin soon, followed by the application of a top layer of magnesium chloride at a rate of 0.25 gallons per square yard.

This project is expected to be completed by September 2024.

Elkhorn (CR15) Project

Elkhorn Road (CR15), a major project completed on July 31, 2024, has no further updates. The project, which has been successfully finalized, involved extensive road repairs and improvements over the last few months.

Countywide Road Maintenance

In addition to the special projects, countywide maintenance continues, addressing repairs caused by flooding and storm runoff. This includes extensive grading of roads and the placement of 67,000 tons of gravel. Across all districts, Public Works has graded 437 miles of road and applied 78,560 gallons of magnesium chloride to improve road stability and reduce dust. Pothole repairs have been carried out extensively, with significant asphalt use across districts:

  • District 1: 115 tons of asphalt
  • District 2: 45 tons
  • District 3: 147 tons
  • District 4: 60 tons

Ongoing and Upcoming Work

Public Works crews continue to work Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. as they progress through their road maintenance schedule. The public is advised to stay alert for construction signs, closures, and detour routes that may affect daily travel. It’s important to note that all schedules are weather-dependent and subject to change.

Residents are encouraged to stay updated on the progress of these projects and road conditions through the county’s project webpage and real-time road information on COtrip.
